Is there a way to add a comment field to a product in our store? We have guests that want to register for a specific luncheon that may not be the current month. For example, a guest responds to our email in June and wants to register for a luncheon in August.

There are a 2 options that may address your needs:
1. There is a place to add comments to an order. This is usually meant for "Gift Messages" but it can be re-worded for your needs. Here is a picture of what it looks like:

2. You may also consider adding a variation to your luncheon product called "Month". This will allow you to offer a choice anytime that a visitor purchases a luncheon from your website. Here is what it can look like (in this example, the variation is called "Color") :
